Welcome to Akagera Game Lodge in Rwanda Kigali. If you need 600 count sheets and 4 Seasons fluffy towels to be comfortable, stop now.
You probably shouldn't even be traveling to these destinations. This property is 30 km down a dirt road. Think about it.
Ignore all negative comments, they are no longer deserved.
We booked with a bit of trepidation.
We were more than pleasantly surprised. Not luxury but more like a top of the line Best Western.
A pleasant greeting at reception with a welcome juice drink.
Our room had a firm King bed, closet and storage baskets of woven bamboo, a patio door and sitting area (with warnings about baboons; this IS a game lodge) that overlooks an immaculate deep swimming pool and Lake Ihema.
The pool was refreshing although we waited until close to sunset before jumping in and an evening breeze was starting.
Swim a bit earlier in the afternoon but use plenty of sunscreen.
The bathroom had a tub and shower with plentiful
hot water and two free bottles of drinking water.
All for $100 (save $5 if you pay in Rf) with a large included breakfast.
There is a $30 pp fee to enter the park. But if you arrive late afternoon for the next days safari, you pay only for one day. And 4000 Rf ($7) car.
Our car was filthy with red dust when we arrived. The staff washed the car while we stayed and it was immaculate the next morning as we departed for the safari drive.
As it stands it would appear that they are trying very hard to put the Hotel out of business, This would be a terrible shame.as it really was a wonderful experience!
