Bagamoyo Beach Resort Tanzania

Anyway, Bagamoyo beach resort is ideal for back packers. Infact we saw not less than four groups (of approx 10 - 12 pax per group) that came in that weekend but did not stay more than one night as is typical with backpacking.

This one was an interesting one for me. We went to Bagamoyo out of an impromptu decision to take the weekend away without the kids.

We arrived Bagamoyo on a Friday in the evening, around 6pm and started scouting for hotels.

The lazy lagoon was a no go because you need to take a boat to go there and it was too late.

Much to our surprise, quite a number of the hotels were fully booked and so we finally landed at Bagamoyo Beach Resort which was empty - no surprise there.

.

The rates are very pocket friendly and the food is generally quite good (its french owned, what do you expect).

The breakfast though is a joke. Its a medley of fruits with coffee or tea (instant that you make yourself) two slices of toast, cold eggs and one frankfurter.

The restaurant opens when the staff wake up, so do not count on an early morning breakfast.

Other ala carte meals though are fantastic and you must try the seafood fondue or lobster or seafood platter. Absolutely delish !! and servings are generous.

The infamous hotel owner, yes, likes his drink and yes, is very (or maybe a bit too) sociable with the guests.

But it is all in good humour, to make you feel comfortable. He told us he prefers to sit with his guests and get to know them which I think is pretty good.

He made us laugh a lot so one just needs to take him in stride. He was also very conscious of making us feel uncomfortable by his presence and asked several times if we were ok.

The general staff attitude is quite good. They're polite, prompt and very friendly.

The hotel is right at the beach so the sunrise and sunsets are absolutely breathtaking.

There is a swimming pool that looks ok although we didn't get a chance to sample it out because the ocean is pretty good to swim in.

With all its shortcomings, I would go back because the shortcomings are infrastructural and the people make up for that with their good services and great food.
