Camp Carnelleys is a brilliant camp site with Bandas as well as camping plots.
Great location right by the lake, well maintained and obvious care and attention has gone into the place.
The bar/restaurant is stunning and a wonderful place to spend your morning/afternoon/evening :)
The food is incredible with home made dishes and great Pizzas from the Pizza oven.
Even when packed (as it was over Easter) the staff are still courteous, polite and helpful
We arrived for a couple of nights and stayed nearly a week! I decided that it would take at least 5 days to get through everything I fancied on the menu.
We had a twin room which was great for the money. A secure lock and mosquito nets - done.
We used the camp as a base
and had some amazing trips. We had a nose around one of the new bandas and they
look fantastic. As we were out at dawn most mornings, the cheaper twin rooms
worked out fine.
The battery on our Land Rover failed mid stay
and Stanley the builder was fantastic in helping us get a new one delivered to
camp.
Minor at the gatehouse will do almost anything to help too. We found the
gate staff fantastic at all times of day and night and we felt secure having
them there.
We climbed Mount Longonot and hiked the rim of
the crater, cycled through Hell's Gate National Park and walked the gorge on a
couple of days. We also had a fantastic boat safari to see birds and hippos.
Boat and bikes were provided by the camp so no hassle for early starts. Tip - get up before sunrise and drive to the small lake for amazing views of the flamingos as the sun comes up.
The camp staff will give you directions and remember your
camera!
We were always back by mid afternoon to have ice
cold Tusker beers and share adventure (and misadventure) stories with the camp
owners and other guests.
We loved whiling away our evenings at the bar
and restaurant - it is open, stylish and built using local methods and
materials.
The menu is international, fresh and delicious -
we actually developed a minor dependence on Crissy's camembert and bacon
samosas... The spicy crayfish and chapattis are also still on my mind!
An amazing stay - thanks so much to Crissy,
Lovat, Annie and Tommy for some fantastic memories of chilling out on Lake
Naivasha. See you soon! X
