Dar es Salaam Red Onion Restaurant has the benefit of being a relaxed outdoor restaurant in the centre of town
(It's on the 2nd floor mezzanine terrace of the posh highrise behind the petrol station opposite Posta.)
If you've just spent a few hours watching out for potholes and walking around in the crowds of the city centre, it's brilliant to get out on that terrace and see it all from above... with a cold beer and a tasty curry.
Watching the sun go down you can feel pretty exotic/urban as you contemplate the selection of Dar highrises and the balconies of the neighbours, birds wheeling around.
They serve various type of food but I normally order Indian. Their aloo paratha is the tastiest I've tried in Dar.
There's also an ice cream/juice bar next door and a coffee bar that you can order from. The service has always been friendly and professional.
As a bonus it's at the Eastern end of Kisutu Street (apologies to those who prefer its long Indian name) wich features lots of Hindu temples, interesting shops and good lunch places (such as Bhog 56, highly recommended too.)
