Eataly restaurant mombasa is the place to go for real good Italian food in Mombasa. Forget about La Veranda, the food here is far better.
The restaurant is located on the ground floor of a new building that is yet to be completed. Once seated, you don't realize that as the décor is nice and complete.
They have 2 seating areas, one outside on the terrace (overlooking a road) and one inside that is airconditioned.
We sat inside as it was a warm night. This place gets busy so I suggest you make reservations in advance.
The décor is nice and new and resembles a chic café. The waiter was very good, seated us immediately and served us our drinks.
Once we were settled and enjoying our drinks, the waiter came to get our orders. He was knowledgeable and knew the menu inside out.
We ordered smoked sailfish with bread, and tomato soup for starters.
The smoked sailfish was exquisite, delicately smoked and full of fresh flavours. The tomato soup was perfectly tangy and sweet and piping hot. Delicious Kenyan plum tomatoes!
For mains we ordered a pizza, spinach & ricotta ravioli, veggie lasagna, penne carbonara and pasta with crab and prawns in a tomato sauce.
The pizza was excellent, crisp and delicious. The ravioli and lasagna were fantastic. My sister loved both dishes very much, full of flavour and wonderful aromas. The penne carbonara was a little bit on the dry side.
There was far too little sauce and the dish was too sticky and cloggy. It did taste good though. My pasta with crab and prawns was outstanding.
In all honesty, it's one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. It was wonderful. There's nothing like fresh seafood.
What impressed me was when the owner came to greet us and see how we were doing and even more impressive was to see him in the kitchen behind the kitchen pass ensuring the food going out was perfect.
Keep it up and you will continue to succeed.
Very good food, great service and a cool ambiance. Very good.
