The Gorillas Lake Kivu Hotel is the latest addition to Gisenyi's growing list of hotels, and these guys have made an impressive job of renovating and expanding the old Hotel Regina into a modern, airy and comfortable hotel.
We stayed Gorilla Lake Kivu Hotel as part of our Rwandan tour. It was comfortable and clean, view of Lake Kivu from the balcony was lovely. The reception staff was very helpful when I was trying to get hooked up with Wifi.
Gorillas Lake Kivu is a newish hotel and is maintained to a high standard.
It may not have the dramatic lake front of the Serena but the location is good, with views of the lake and nice gardens, and the price at US$80 is certainly better value for money (although the pool wasn't working when I was there).
Friendly and helpful staff
make the stay even more pleasant. Food in the restaurant was good although it
took a bit of time to arrive, breakfast on the patio was very nice though.
My room was a little on the small side, but very
clean and with nice decoration.
Gorillas is a short walk to other bars,
restaurants and hotels and is a stones throw from the public beach which offers
beautiful views over the lake and to the hills of DRC. The lake front also
offers beautiful sunsets.
Like almost everywhere else I stayed in Rwanda, there were very few other guests which made for limited ambience, but can't fault the hotel for that. Would recommend happily if you're looking for a more upmarket option without breaking the bank.
Rooms are fairly plain but comfortable, with balconies facing out over the lake.
Bathrooms and clean, and their showers are great. Although it doesn't have a beach of its own, the pool is impressive (though still needs to be cleaned a little!).
Nice restaurant with a veranda overlooking the pool and gardens, though the bar is tucked away upstairs and it's a shame that they didn't put it somewhere more open.
Staff are friendly and courteous, and there is a conference room too
