Hotel Oasis in Morogoro is simple, but then again one shouldn’t expect 5-star accommodation in Morogoro.
So one has to alter the cleanliness and comfort expectations. The hotel building in close to the town center, on a busy but not particularly noisy street.
The hotel grounds are fenced off, there is an open-air swimming pool and a restaurant with a terrace. Reception area is nice, the check-in process is fast and efficient, the staff is friendly and speak good English.
Rooms are quite big, facing the courtyard, so it is relatively quiet at night. The colours chosen for the rooms are a bit unfortunate: browns and dull reds, that make the room look dark and dated.
The furniture is quite old, though there is everything needed – a desk, a coffee table, an arm chair, a bed of course, a luggage rack, TV, a fridge and a couple of chairs.
The room needs a good scrub, the bathroom too.
There is a shower in the bathroom, hot water was running fine. The toilet was a
bit wobbly and leaking, the bathroom was not terribly clean.
It is recommended to shower with the mouth shut and to use drinking water for brushing ones teeth to avoid waterborne diseases. A bottle of drinking water was provided every day.
Towels were a tad old, but seemed to be clean (OK, they did have rusty stains, but I think it’s just age). Toilet paper was provided; out of bathroom toiletries – only soap.
The good thing about the hotel is its restaurant: it serves Chinese and Indian dishes, and they are excellent. I also recommend local beers, in particular Kilimanjaro. The prices are good too.
Another plus point is a beautiful view to the Uluguru Mountains.
In summary, Oasis is OK, if you are not too concerned about cleanliness. The location, service, food and views are very good, value for money is fair.
