Overview


KISWCD is a Community-focused Development and Training Institution without any Governmental, Religious or political affiliation.


KISWCD was initiated in 1997 and incorporated on 22nd June 2000 as a Private Company limited by guarantee.


It was registered by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on 22nd August 2002 as a training Institution [Registration no. MOEST/PC/758/2002]


It is managed by a Board of Governors who are experienced in the areas of Social work, Educational Institutions management, Business Management, Human Resource Management, Finance and Accounting, Psychology, Environmental Health, Counselling and Law among others.  


KISWCD is currently working in conjunction with the JOMO KENYATTA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY and BUSOGA UNIVERSITY to offer a number of courses like Community Development, Human Resource Management and HIV/AIDS Management. More programmes are currently under way.


KISWCD is a member of a number of International organizations and Associations and an examination Centre for KNEC, ICM UK, AQA UK, ABMA among others.


The Institution offers Certificate and Diploma courses in Community Development, Social Work and Welfare, Project Management, Community Health and Counseling among others. A number of short courses and consultancy services are available.


In the last 11 years, the institution has distinguished itself as a Centre of excellence; drawing students from virtually all major NGOs, Government departments and the Private sector.


Foreign students from Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Sudan, Somalia, Malawi and Ethiopia have continued to enroll in KISWCD signifying the confidence that the region has in the institution.


Empowerment of the community through training and management is the basic foundation of the Institute.


CAMPUS LIFE


The mission of student life aspect is to encourage. Students grow up physically, socially, spiritually, ethically so that they may be prepared to adequately influence their world as community servants


CLUBS


The institution has clubs such as Christian Union, Young Christian service and Muslim union. They are intended to provide spiritual growth of the entire KISWCD community.


DAY OF PRAYER


Once a semester the college suspends classes for a day of prayer inviting religious leaders from both Christian and Muslim groups. Both staff and students are expected to participate.


CODE OF CONDUCT


Every community or society has a framework within which its members live.

KISWCD believes that growth to maturity is best encouraged as individuals voluntarily adopt patters that lead to consistent growth.

However the college believes that expectations in lifestyle by al the members of the community.

Therefore the college has a code of conduct for both students and staff highlighting values and standards that the college believes be upheld for healthy growth.


Students who cannot with integrity support these values and standards may subject to suspension or dismissal.


COUNSELING


The College has a counseling center valuable for counseling students and staff on various matters such life as issues, career counseling, marital problems, interpersonal issues, placement services among many others. The KISWCD counseling centre has qualified counselors to deal with students’ and staff issues.


SPORTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES


Sports activities such as football, basketball, netball, athletics and many outdoor and indoor are promoted through the sports department. Annually, KISWCD holds two major sports events.
