Overview of Mombasa Polytechnic University College

Located in the coastal city of Mombasa, MPUC is one of the National Polytechnics recently elevated to status of University Colleges in Kenya. It encompasses the many benefits of a small university in the nation’s Island city bordering the great Indian Ocean.

For several decades the MPUC has been offering technical education to students pursuing proffessional courses in the various fields Engineering, Applied Sciences and Business studies culminating in the recent elevation to University status giving us the opportunity to offer Degree programs currently under the tutelage of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

The Mombasa Polytechnic University College  is famous for its hands on graduates with a touch of creativity and innovation, this comes out clearly whenever we participate technological exhibitions and other related events where our students always come out tops, a good example is offcourse the National Robot Contest where for two years in row we have been tops trouncing even the better equiped and well established institutions of higher learning.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

(a) General Minimum Entry Requirements

(i) Degree: Mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) OR other qualifications recognized by the Academic Board.

(ii) Diploma: Mean grade of C (plain) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) OR other qualifications recognized by the Academic Board.

(iii) Pre-University College and Certificates: Mean grade of C-(minus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) OR other qualifications recognized by the Academic Board.

(b) Other entry qualifications:

The Academic Board shall determine other entry qualifications as follows:

For Degree

(i) A diploma from a recognized examining body or institution and in a field relevant to the programme sought at TUM.

(ii) A Certificate taking 2 years and above from a recognized examining body or institution and in a field relevant to the programme sought at TUM.

(iii) A Pre-University College Certificate from a recognized institution.

(iv) Division II and above in O-level.

For Diploma

(i) A certificate from a credible institution (6 months and above) and in a field relevant to a programme sought at TUM.

(ii) A Pre-University College Certificate from a recognized institution.

(iii) Div. III in O-Level.

For certificate

(i) A craft course from a credible institution (6 months and above) and in a field relevant to a programme sought at TUM.

(ii) A Pre-University College Certificate from a recognized institution.

(iii) Div. IV in O-Level.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

(i) All applicants must complete an application form either electronically or in hard copy and submit to the Registrar Academic Affairs. The application form is available at the office of the Registrar Academic Affairs or University College website.

The application form should be accompanied by all supporting documents showing the applicant’s qualification Application form shall be processed only upon receipt of stipulated non-refundable application fee.

After processing the applications, the Registrar Academic Affairs shall communicate the decision in writing to all applicants.

(ii) The applicant is responsible for the authenticity of any documents submitted for the purpose of securing admission. Should such documents be provided at any time to be fraudulent, admission will be nullified and/or certificates issued on the basis of such documents shall be withdrawn and cancelled.
