Mombasa yuls restaurant is my favourite restaurant at the beach. I assure you, it's the best place to have lunch at the beach in the North Coast.
I think the best thing about Yuls is the location.
It is right at the beach where you can catch a more than welcome sea breeze., particularly if you seat on the deck.
The restaurant is a bit crowded, they need to reduce the number of chairs and tables.
I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to sample local dishes, the food is very 'Mzungu' (European).
It is however very popular with airline crews that have stopped over in Mombasa for a night or two.
The Italian icecream is excellent and totally worth the trip there.
Bad things about this restaurant besides the crowded seating area, is the very high prices even by European standards.
I don't think the restaurant is smart enough to warrant such high prices. Plus the music from the sea side bar can be a tad loud.
We first visited yuls after someone in the hotel recommended it for ice cream. We walked along the beach to get to it and therefore got a bit harrassed by the beach boys, but they are never that bad and the ice cream was defiantly worth it!
We ended up going a couple of times whilst we were in Mombasa and it was a lovely break from the hotel.
We also went to the restaurant as a couple and with another couple of friends. The food in the evening was really good and we enjoyed it very much.
The service was good and the staff polite. We found it to be good value for money and were very full after we had eaten.
If you visit you need to be aware of what time you go as if you get to the restaurant be aware of what time the tide comes in if you walk along the beach to it!
You can get to it via the road, however if you are walking back in the evening you need to walk up a dark road to get back to the main road.
Make sure you ask for their home made chilli sauce, it's called 'bomb'. It is really very spicy and goes really well with the Namenlos pizza.
