STUDENTS’ ACCOMMODATION

Currently, the University Campus has four hostel buildings containing about 1160 beds.

Allocation of rooms in the University hostels shall be done in accordance to the following order of priority: disabled students, foreign students, and female students.

Students who are accommodated in hostels are obliged to pay accommodation fees at an authorized rate.

For students who opt to live off-campus, the Dean of Students is available to give advice on matters of appropriate housing.

The Muslim University of Morogoro was founded by the MuslimDevelopment Foundation (MDF) on 23 rd October, 2004 by a Charter proclaimed by MDF, proprietors of the University.

Muslim University of Morogoro General Admission Requirements

Minimum General Entry Requirements

(a) Direct Entry

The minimum entry requirements for the degree programmes under direct entry qualifications are:-

i) Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E.) or East African Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) or equivalent with credit passes in THREE approved subjects obtained prior to the sitting of the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E.E.), or East African Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) or equivalent;

and

ii) Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E.E.), or East African Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) or equivalent with a minimum of two principal level passes in appropriate subjects with total points of not less than 4.5 or 2.0 for BSc. programme, all based on the following scale:

A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5

or

iii) an appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate of not lower than Second Class/Credit level with 3 Credits or 5 passes of C.S.E.E., and approved by the University Senate.

For foreign applicants with Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education and from countries whose education systems are based on 8 years of primary school education, 4 years of secondary education, and 4 years of University education, the minimum entrance requirements shall be as follows:

i) successful completion of one year of study in a University in their own home country;

or

ii) having an appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate of not less than Second Class/Credit level and approved by the University Senate, and 3 credit passes or 5 passes at C.S.E.E.

or

iii) having taken in Tanzania the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations, or equivalent;

or

iv) having Baccalaureate certificate in approved subjects.

N.B.: A candidate who uses a pass of A.C.S.E.E in religious subject to make up the required minimum of 4.5 points is not eligible to apply for a non-religious degree programme. Such candidate qualifies to apply for Bachelor of Islamic Studies with Education degree only.

Programme Specific Entry Requirements

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Arts (Education) at Muslim University of Morogoro

Direct Entry Qualifications

i) A minimum of principal passes in two teaching subjects (English, Kiswahili, French, Arabic Geography, History) at the same sitting, with total points of not less than 4.5;

or

ii) an appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate of not lower than Second Class/Credit level and approved by the University Senate.

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) at Muslim University of Morogoro

Direct Entry Qualifications

i) A minimum of two principal passes in arts or science subjects, at the same sitting, with total points of not less than 4.5:

and

should have credit pass in either English or Kiswahili at C.S.E.E;

or

ii) an appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate of not less than Second class/Credit level and approved by the University Senate.

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Islamic Studies with Education at Muslim University of Morogoro

Direct Entry Qualifications

A minimum of two principal passes in appropriate subjects, at the same sitting, with total points of not less than 4.5;

and

should have a credit pass in Islamic Knowledge at C.S.E.E;

or

obtained at least a Thanawiyah Certificate or its equivalent from Islamic schools or colleges.

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Languages and Interpretation at Muslim University of Morogoro

i) A minimum of two principal passes in the Advanced Certificate in Secondary School Education, or its equivalent, in arts or science subjects, at the same sitting, with total points of not less than 4.5;

and

(ii) should have credit passes in two international languages, one of which should be English at C.S.E.E, or its equivalent; fluency (reading, writing, speaking and understanding) in a foreign language, as well as in English,

or

iii) an equivalent Language Diploma/Certificate of not lower than Second Class/Credit level and approved by the University Senate.

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Business Studies at Muslim University of Morogoro

i) A minimum of two principal passes in the Advanced Certificate in Secondary School Education or its equivalent in business subjects (Mathematics, Commerce, Book-keeping, etc); or in science combinations;

or

ii) an appropriate equivalent Diploma/Certificate of not lower than Second Class/Credit level and approved by the University Senate.

Admission Requirements for Bachelor of Laws with Shariah at Muslim University of Morogoro

A minimum of two principal passes and one subsidiary in the AdvancedCertificate in Secondary School Education in appropriate subjects, or its equivalent; must include English and, or History, at least in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education,

and

should have a credit pass in Islamic Knowledge and Arabic Language at C.S.E.E;

or

obtained at least a Thanawiyah certificate or its equivalent from Islamic schools or colleges.

Admission Requirements for Mature Age Entry Examinations at Muslim University of Morogoro

This examination scheme allows candidates who may be competent to study for a first-degree programme but do not possess the qualifications which satisfy the University Direct Entry requirements.

Candidates who wish to apply through this alternative method of entry must satisfy the following conditions:

i) must be 25 years of age or above, on October 1st of the year in which admission is sought.

ii) should have at least 3 credit passes in approved subjects at O-Level (e.g. History and/or English for Bachelor of Laws with Shariah);

iii) should be able to show that they have been upgrading their existing knowledge by attending some form of classes/courses in which case recommendation from the class tutor(s) will be necessary.

or

iv) have attempted “A” Level Examination but failed to attain minimum points required for Admission, provided they have attended extra mural classes or a residential course after the “A” Level Examinations.

or

v) hold a Certificate in Law/Shariah awarded by an accredited institution, in case intending to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Laws with Shariah degree.

or

vi) hold a Certificate in business studies awarded by an accredited institution, in case intending to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Business Studies degree.

or

vii) hold a Certificate in languages awarded by an accredited institution, in case intending to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Languages and Interpretation degree.

or

viii) hold a Certificate in Sciences awarded by an accredited institution, in case intending to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Science with Education.

Candidates who meet conditions mentioned above and wish to apply for admission to a degree course should submit dully completed Application Forms to the University Admission office in time.

They must also pay a non-refundable fee (Tshs 30,000/=) to cover application and examination expenses.

TRANSFER OF STUDENTS

1. The University may accept transfer of students from other Universities provided that:

(i) The maximum transferable load for a four year programme is two semesters if the student has studied for six semesters from her/his former University.

(ii) For a three-year programme a student can transfer an equivalent of one semester if she/he has studied for two academic years in her/his former university.

However, students may be exempted from taking some corresponding courses taken at a former university. In this regard students are required to seek Senate approval through their respective Faculties.

Short Term and Occasional Students

The University may accept students from other Universities who would like to take some courses offered at the University through short term or occasional studentship arrangements.

Short Term arrangement

Students who meet the University’s admission prerequisites may be allowed to register for one or two academic semesters to take full time courses at the University.

However, they will not be offered certificate, diploma or degree at the end of their registration. They may be given statement of results for examinations they have attempted at the University.

Occasional Students

These are students who meet the minimum University admission requirements and would like to audit some courses at the University.

They usually stay at the University for one semester. Unlike short-term students, they are not required to sit for University Examinations and hence they are not entitled to any academic document, unless a special arrangement is made.

Admission Requirements for Short Term and Occasional Students

Students from other universities in the country or abroad shall be admitted to this University as Short Term or Occasional Students on the following conditions:

i) They must possess the University’s minimum entry qualifications or their equivalent

ii) Must send applications to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)

iii) Must pay all fees as stipulated by the University Authorities

iv) Their applications must be supported by their Universities or Colleges

v) Must comply with all rules and regulations as stipulated by the University Authorities.

Termination and Discontinuation from Studies

Short Term students may be terminated or discontinued from studies on the following grounds:

i) breach of University regulations (including examination and admission regulations),

ii) breach of Immigration Regulations,

iii) abscondment,

iv) irregular attendance in classes.

Change of Status

A short term or an occasional student may be allowed to change her/his status to a fully registered student on the following conditions:

i) meet all admission prerequisites.

ii) show satisfactory performance in courses and examinations taken at the University

ii) able to cover at least two thirds (2/3) of the requirement at the University.

PAYMENT OF FEES

i) Candidates who have not paid University fees may not be allowed to sit for examinations until they have cleared their debts.

i) Any candidate barred from examination(s) on grounds of non-payment of fees shall be deemed to have absconded himself/herself from the examination(s) and shall then be discontinued from studies on those grounds.

ii) Any candidate who owes the University shall not be allowed to graduate.

iii) A candidate who owes the University shall not be issued with an academic transcript, statement of results or any other academic document.

iv) Short term and Occasional Students shall pay fees like all other students. Non Tanzanian students shall pay in US $ or any other convertible currency.

LOANS AND FEES

A student intending to join Muslim University of Morogoro will have to check about how much it will cost to study for a degree (see fee structure below) and also consider what financial support will be available.

Needy Tanzanian students who secure admission to pursue academic programmes may seek loans from the Higher Education Students’ Loan Board (HESLB) in Tanzania to meet at least part of the costs of their education.

Loan application forms can be collected at the Boards Offices located at Tirdo Complex, Kimweri Road, Msasani, P.O. Box 76068, DAR ES SALAAM, at the nearest Post Office, or in some cases, at the office of the Deans of Students of all Higher Education Institutions in Tanzania.

It is important that candidates apply for loans at the same time they seek admission to University.

On the day of reporting for registration at the University, students shall be required to pay all the fees to the University at CRDB Bank account No: 0 1 J 1 0 1 3 3 8 0 6 0 1 and submit the receipts to the Bursar. All candidates selected for admission shall be required to pay at the University an Administration fee (TS 35,000/- for Tanzanians, and US $ 30 for foreign nationals).

Payment of the tuition fees should be made also at the time of registration. Normally, a student will not be allowed to attend classes at the University unless the required fees have been paid.

Failure to pay the fees within the specified period will result in the withdrawal of registration. Fees paid will not be refunded in case a student withdraws or leaves the University.

Foreign students are expected to pay their fees in convertible currency.

They are also required to comply with immigration regulations.

Besides entry visa acquired from the country of departure, they are also required to apply for residence permit soon after their arrival in Tanzania.

At the beginning of the academic year, all students will be required to produce a reliable evidence of sponsorship; otherwise they will be expected to pay full tuition and other University fees for the full year by the beginning of the Semester before they can be permitted to use the University facilities.
