We were so glad that we picked Paje by Night Hotel in Zanzibar - it had such a chilled atmosphere, staff were friendly and helpful, perfect place to relax.
Has a young, hippy vibe, but there were also some families staying.
The pool is lovely and always has some part in shade, with plenty of loungers around the edge, and we spent many an afternoon lazing in a hammock with a book.
You pay for Paje by night as an up market back packer style hotel.
The value for money is comparable to anywhere else on the island.
Paje by Night is smaller hotel and is located on the less traveled east coast of the island.
You can expect that some items will be slight more expensive than if you stayed in Nungwi or Stone town because they have to transport everything out to the hotel.
The location is fantastic, the beaches
are not crowded and are located just a short stroll down a powdery sand path to
get there.
They also have a great kite school featuring a
number of instructors and staff to teach you many levels of the sport.
You can get a great nights sleep here however if
you are a light sleeper try one of their Air Conditioned rooms in the back away
from the bar.
The rooms are decorated with bright colors and
an array of Swahili flare. Many of the colors and themes are mixed and matched
to bring out the style in which the Swahili women decorate themselves on a
daily bases.
The idea is to be out of your room and enjoying
Zanzibar so do not expect big bath tubs and grandeur... they provide you with
what you need to be comfortable and clean.
All the public areas are open air under thatched
palm leaf roofs. With the cool breeze and a cocktail in hand you will find
yourself totally chilled out and during the evening if you want a little more
fun the bar plays some great music that gives way to a livelier atmosphere.
The swimming pool is more than adequate for the size of the hotel and the restaurant has some fantastic food with local and European flare.
We have been trying different places but Paje by Night Hotel is the best. Nice pizza and pasta, which we have been wanting for 8 weeks travelling around in Tanzania.
If you look for local food there are other places to go to but if you want nice italian and european food this is the place.
Good sortiment of wines too!I stayed in a hotel in Dongwe, but three days, I went biking (45 minutes) from Dongwe up here, to enjoy the food and the atmosphere of Paje by Night Bar and Restaurant was unbearable.
