Overview

Railway Training Institute was established in 1956 as a skill development centre for training Human resources for the then East African Railways and Harbours.

After the collapse of the East African Community, the school was fully owned by Kenya Railways Corporation and continued its mission as a training centre for specialized. Railway based courses.

In 1988, the Government of Kenya upgraded the school to a Training Institute to offer middle level training programmes at certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma qualifications, both in Technical and Business disciplines. To this end, the Institute opened its doors to the public in 1990.

Since 1990 the Institute has undergone phenomenal growth in student enrolment and programmes.

Railway training Institute has continued to produce a highly skilled and motivated manpower for both the Public and the Private sector.

Facilities at Railway Training Institute

Accommodation

The institute accommodates a proportion of its students in Hostels which have a capacity of 700 students. The hostels are neatly maintained, comfortable and conveniently situated.

Health

A health centre is available on the campus for the well being of the students and the staff.

Lecture/ Seminar Rooms

RTI has excellent rooms of various capacity ranging from 20 to 50 participants. In addition, a spacious hall with sitting capacity of 500 participants, available for examinations and the conference purpose of hiring. In addition, the institute offers beautiful outdoor facilities for Garden Parties/ Weddings, Tents, Grounds hire at reasonable prices.

Workshops and Laboratories

The Institute has several engineering based workshops and laboratories for practical demonstrations. In addition, our engineering students are attached to the Kenya Railways Workshops and other relevant work environment in the country for practical exposure.

Leisure

Railway Training Institute has over 30 students- run clubs and societies ranging from Christian Union, Wildlife to Drama and so on.

This contributes considerably to spiritual, cultural and intellectual development of the students. Sports provide health benefits as well as integrate students from different courses, colleges and culture.
