Stilts backpackers is one of the best and coziest hostels i've been to! (And I’ve been around traveling in East Africa, living in hostels and I guess it's the friendly and family rich feeling I loved the most.
But the hostel is placed in a calm area surrounded by loads of jungle trees with monkeys, lizards and bush babies everywhere.
So even though there's a rode near by and one of the best restaurants/clubs in Mombasa also close, the trees and bushes shuts the noise out, and you go to sleep with the sounds of crickets and other night living creatures.
You can choose to live in a tree house above the ground with other people (a dorm), or you can have a cottage for your self.
Me, myself lived in a cottage with the friend I was traveling with, so we had a private bathroom and shower. Although it didn't always feel that private cuz it was outside and we had monkeys visit us often.
But that was really an amazing feeling to have a shower in what felt like the jungle with warm breezes on your skin, singing birds and one and an other monkey friend coming to keep you company.
The food on stilts were amazing!. And cheap. We
tried loads of other restaurants in the area, but non of them were even close
in comparison to the food at stilts.
It's a very simple hostel though, as you
probably hear. But they have warm and cold water (which surprised me), electricity,
Wi Fi and safety boxes in a safety room where there were always someone
working.
They also had a safety crew wandering about the
area so I felt as secured as I possible could.
The crew at stilts were super friendly and
learned everyone's names quickly, so after only a week at stilts, it felt like
leaving parts of your family behind when it was time to travel back home.
