There are a lot of things that are difficult to get out here in Kenya, so I often shy away from ordering 'European' style food.
A french friend insisted on us going to Thalassa restaurant and lounge Mombasa , and boy was I glad he did.
It was incredibly quiet (we were one of the only tables there), but that didn't spoil the atmosphere.
I had the pork with mustard dressing, and it is one of the best meals I have had out here. The head chef came and chatted to us, and made recommendations.
Thalassa has a wonderful setting. It's located at the creek right by the Nyali bridge and the views are magical.
It's one of the few places where one can enjoy the magic of Mombasa by the sea.
The restaurant is initmate, the décor is very nice and the service is outstanding. We had 2 waiters plus the head waiter taking care of us.
A special mention goes to the head waiter, who informed me that he previously worked at La Marina.
He took very good care of us and deserves an award. Asante sana. He took our orders while we were at the bar and then beckoned us to the table when the food was ready.
For desserts we thorougly enjoyed a selection of sorbets, the tree tomato sorbet was out of this world! Others enjoyed the very rich chocolate soufflé.
All in all, this is a very very good restaurant with good food (French chef), excellent service, wonderful setting and a lovely ambiance.
